  3. Kenwood TH-215A / TH-215E Frequency Modification.

  6.      I'm not quite sure why we all do this, but here's how anyway.
  7.  
  8.      In order to increase the frequency coverage of the Kenwood TH-215 
  9. Series Handheld Transceivers, a few jumpers inside the radio need to be cut.
  10. No retuning is necessary.  WARNING: The radio is compact internally;  if
  11. you do not have the delicate touch of a surgeon, forget this mod or get a
  12. radio surgeon friend to do it for you.
  13.  
  14.      Tools you will need :  #1 Phillips Screwdriver 
  15.                             #2 Phillips Screwdriver 
  16.                             Diagonal Cutters (Very Small!)
  17.  
  18.      Remove the Battery Pack, Antenna and Belt Clip.
  19.  
  20.      Remove the 4 small screws in the recesses near the 4 corners
  21.         of the back of the radio. Do not separate the cases yet!
  22.  
  23.      Place radio on a clean soft work surface Face-Up.  With the
  24.         antenna connector facing away from you.
  25.  
  26.      Lift the front case of radio STRAIT-UP.  When clear of the rear
  27.         case, rotate the front case to the right and lay it on the
  28.         work surface Face-Down.  Do Not Damage the Flat Cables.

  30.      KEEP YOUR FINGERS OFF THE ELECTRONICS!

  32.      Notice the 4 Copper colored jumpers on the surface of the circuit
  33.         board inside of the front case cover.  These are located 1.5
  34.         inches "NorthWest" of the center of the speaker.  They are
  35.         numbered J1 thru J4 from the bottom to the top.  J3 is already
  36.         cut on the TH-215A.
  37.  
  38.      Remove the jumpers as selected from the table below by cutting
  39.         through the thin area at the center of the jumper. BE CAREFUL!
  40.  
  41.      Reassemble Radio.  All memories will be clear and the display will
  42.         be at the lowest Transmittable Frequency (i.e. 141 or 144).
